Once Odysseus and his men sail away from the cyclop's island, they now land on the island of Aeolia. Aeolus is the wind king and gave Odysseus a a bag of strong winds. One of his men accidentally opened the bag, which caused a hurricane and led them to the island of Circe. Some of Odysseus' men searched the island and were wooed by Circe's beautiful singing, and beauty. She turned them into pigs, when Odysseus heard of this he searched for Circe. On his way to her palace, Hermes, the messenger god, gives him moly which is a some kind of garlic, that will weaken Circe's power. Circe made a deal with Odysseus that if he stays with her forever then she will turn his men back to normal. Odysseus stays with Circe what feels a few days, but instead has been an entire year. Odysseus begs Circe to let him go. Circe agrees, but she has to send him to the underworld. |
