Odysseus tells the maids who betrayed him to clean up the mess they left, but Telemachus "pays" them by hanging them in the courtyard. Eurycleia tells Penelope that Odysseus is alive, but she believes that the gods are playing a trick on her, so she tests him. At first Penelope is hesitant that this is her husband, but Odysseus started to yell about how his bed was moved, and that it was built by olive tree trunk. Once Penelope heard these words, she started to cry and hugged him. She could have not greeted him with love because the other suitors at her house gave her the wrong idea.
