Coming Home
Once Odysseus arrives at Ithaca, Athena warns him about the dangers that can happen once he reaches his town. She dresses him up as a beggar, so he would not get hurt by the men who have invaded his house. Athena goes to Telemachus, and tells him that his father is home. However, his home is being ruined by the suitors there who are wasting his money and partying. They are pressuring his mother into marrying one of them. Athena also warns Telemachus that the men plan to ambush him. He heads back home. |
The Meeting of Father and Son
Odysseus is still in his beggar costume when he meets Telemachus. Telemachus agrees to protect him, not knowing that the beggar is his father. Athena is suspenseful and changes Odysseus' costume to his normal clothing. Telemachus was shocked and did not believe it was his father. Telemachus was very emotional when he did realize it was Odysseus, his father. Odysseus kissed him everywhere. |
