Odysseus and his crew set sail again, but he was so exhausted that he decided to land on Thrinakaia, where Helios, the Sun god lived. Odysseus told his men to not touch Helios' cattle no matter how hungry they were. Since Odysseus was tired he decided to take a nap. Eurylochus, one of Odysseus crew men, sneakily told the rest of the crew to ignore what Odysseus say and to go ahead and kill Helios' cattle. The starving men went ahead. Odysseus woke up to seeing his men kill Helios' cattle. Odysseus begged for mercy from Zeus, but Lampetia, daughter of Helios, told her father what they have done. Helios was outraged and told Zeus to punish Odysseus and his men for not obeying orders. Once Odysseus and his men set sail, Zeus used one of his thunderbolts and destroyed his ship, and killed all his men. Odysseus was the only one who survived. |
