When they arrived at the coastline of the Lotus Eaters, the people living on the island kindly treated them. On the island there was the lotus plant. The plant was sweet, but if the men were to eat the plant they would forget about their home in Ithaca. Odysseus knew this, so he took his men back to the ship no matter how much they begged to stay. He knew better.
